Mirjam Sommerfeld is the Senior Counsel for Legal & Compliance at Bully Pulpit International (BPI) where she focuses on US and global privacy, product and commercial compliance.
Mirjam is a dual qualified attorney licensed in New York and Germany. Mirjam has over 10 years of experience working in law firms like Taylor Wessing and Osborne Clarke and as an in-house counsel advising on regulations, industry standards, and legislation concerning privacy and Ad Tech. Mirjam’s primary focus is on privacy and compliance in the US and the EU. She has spent time at the Hamburg Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Germany working on lawsuits against Facebook, investigating complaints, and enforcing privacy laws.
Previously, Mirjam was the Privacy and Data Counsel at Zeta Global where she also served as Data Protection Officer for Europe. Mirjam managed complex global privacy and compliance issues concerning targeted advertising, profiling, cookies, pixel, and SaaS. Mirjam developed and established the company’s AI Compliance Program.
Prior to Zeta Global, Mirjam was A Senior Privacy Counsel at Ad-Shot Online Marketing in Germany and New York. Mirjam managed the company’s expansion into the US market by integrating a US corporate and compliance system for Affiliate Marketing.
During her time at Fordham School of Law, Mirjam was a Legal Extern to the Honorable Denny Chin at the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York.
Mirjam is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and holds a CIPP-EU certification. Mirjam graduated from Fordham Law School with an LL.M. in Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law with a Dean’s Scholarship and from the University of Hamburg with a JD. with an Erasmus scholarship at the University of Paris-Nanterre. Mirjam currently lives in Miami with her husband and daughter.
